Four Seasons in Hiroshima

June to mid-July is the wettest season of the year. However, Hiroshima has relatively few days of rainfall per year and is characterized by many sunny days. After the rainy season ends in mid-July, the average temperature is 30°C. Enjoy summer to the fullest while taking precautions against extremely hot temperatures.

Events

Starting with the "Tokasan Grand Festival," also known as the Yukata Wearing Festival, a summer tradition in Hiroshima, "Noryosai" (summer festivals) and "Fireworks Festivals" are held in various locations in Hiroshima from July to August. It is also during this season that the August 6 Peace Memorial Ceremony, an important day for Hiroshima, is held. Summer is the season to remember the peace and history of Hiroshima.

Cuisine

In the summer, when an abundance of seafood is caught from the Seto Inland Sea, small sardines, conger eels, octopus, etc. are in season. Because of the hot summer, we recommend choosing gourmet foods that make you feel "cool" such as "Kure Cold Noodles" with its refreshingly sour taste and "Shirunashi Tantanmen (noodles without soup)" with its addictively tangy and numbing taste of sansho (Japanese pepper).

Sights

A recommended cool spot to get through the hot summer in Hiroshima is the mountainous Sandankyo and Teishakyo Gorge, located in northeastern Hiroshima Prefecture. Visitors can enjoy the cool summer air while admiring the scenery of numerous waterfalls and rock walls unique to the limestone region. The fresh green foliage is also beautiful, making it a refreshing location for both the eyes and the skin.

Experience

Hiroshima, rich in nature, offers a wide variety of activities. On the Seto Inland Sea, fishing, swimming, sea kayaking, and SUP experience facilities are popping up one after another. On the mountain side, try your hand at mountain biking, ATV riding, and natural river slides.

Scenery

From early to mid-August, the sunflower fields in various regions are in full bloom, drawing visitors' attention. The Sera Kogen Farm, with 1.1 million sunflowers, and the sunflower fields in Kimitacho, with 1.3 million sunflowers spread all over the town, are particularly impressive. The "floating lantern festival" held in Hiroshima City on August 6 is a summer tradition. The lanterns, filled with wishes for peace, float gently down the river, creating a dreamlike scene.
